This episode All About Nashville is with 2 Nashville residents who
helped spearhead the new Watkins Park Pump Track located off Charlotte
Pike- Dan Furbish of Oasis Bike Workshop & Jason Campbell of SORBA
Mid-TN. This premiere project almost four years in
the making is an opportunity for youth and community members to join
together to create a safe space to ride their bikes in a North Nashville
public park. With the help of other collaborators and funders,
including Nashville Parks Foundation, Metro Public
Health Department and SORBA Mid-TN, and with Rock City Construction
serving as general contractors and Pumptrax USA serving as builders, the
park was able to become a reality. And because the pump track is in a
city park, it is free to use and open to all
ages.
A pump track is a maximum amount of fun in a relatively small amount of
space. It makes cycling a full body workout, providing more rigorous
exercise and training for mountain biking, as well as regular riding.
It's a continuous loop of “berms” and “rollers”
(i.e. various sized mounds of earth) that are designed to be ridden
using a pumping motion. Built with asphalt, the bike park is easily
sustainable, with low maintenance requirements, making it easy to manage
and enjoyable for the long-term.
Plus hear a new song from the local band, the Natchez Tracers!
